Traditional Bosnian music and practical workshops marked the opening of the first Scientology Volunteer Ministers exhibition in Sarajevo. The programme took place over three days in central Sarajevo as part of the European Goodwill Tour. When rain interrupted the outdoor opening, a local ensemble performed inside the exhibition's yellow tent. The music included sevdalinka, a Bosnian folk tradition recognised by UNESCO in 2024.
The educational displays introduced the public to 19 subjects from The Scientology Handbook, addressing personal relationships, study problems, communication and difficulties at work. Rather than relying only on written information, volunteers provided practical demonstrations. Sessions on Scientology assists, spiritual assistance practices used within Scientology, generated considerable interest among participants. According to organisers, 13 visitors reported applying what they learned with family members.
The Sarajevo visit followed five weeks of activities in Mostar after the tour entered Bosnia and Herzegovina on 6 June 2026. For the Volunteer Ministers, this was not their first experience assisting communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Following the severe floods of 2014, Scientology volunteers participated in cleanup and recovery activities in affected communities, including work at a flooded farm in Kopanica.
Developed in the mid-1970s by L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology, the Volunteer Ministers programme supports educational activities and assistance during disasters. It forms part of the Church of Scientology's ongoing social and volunteer programmes.
Ivan Arjona, the Church of Scientology's representative to the EU, OSCE, Council of Europe and UN, linked the initiative to the importance of mutual understanding and community participation. "Sarajevo's history and cultural traditions remind us that helping others begins with respect for the people and eu newsroom rapid communities around us," he said.
The programme continued with a further educational session for members of a Sarajevo cultural association. A further presentation was requested for a wider group of participants. The tour finished this stage of its European itinerary on 8 October 2026.
